1) What is the origin of the band name?
Supposedly, this was a joke. The band sent out
demo tapes to a bunch of different record labels, and they all
wanted to sign them, but at that time they didn't have a band name.
2) Who
does GLU consist of? In the beginning it was David Reilly,
Jeff Turzo, Adam Kary, and Andrew McGee. It has changed often since then,
and now the only original member of GLU left in the band is David Reilly.
Jeff Turzo is now in a band that was called Wired All Wrong.
3) Who are GLU's Past members? Jeff
Turzo, Andrew McGee, Adam Kary, Scott
Garrett and other people who were GLU's touring members.
4) A brief history of GLU The Band originally came from
Perkiomenville, Pennsylvania, but then relocated to Los Angeles.
Up until his passing, David resided in Pennsylvania. He is now buried in Ambler, PA.
5) Where was their first show played at?
Good question. I have no idea.
6) Who has/does produce GLU's Albums?
GLU had originally formulated and recorded all their work at home. David Reilly says he really dislikes working in the studio environment.
Empty was recorded by them but was produced with the help of Gary
Richards. On the Album sleeve, for some strange reason, Rick Rubin (KoRn,
System of a Down, Coal Chamber producer) gets credit as Executive
Producer. On the album Life In The So-Called Space Age, the credits go
to Gary Richards.
7a) Management of God Lives Underwater
Unknown.
7b) Management of David Reilly
In 2004, it was On The Radar.
http://www.ontheradar.net/ in conjunction with Thom from
Corporate Punishment., now it is David Sherman
, and David's Solo Label is Ruffnation
8) Equipment Keyboards, guitars, drums.
specs unknown.
9) Recording studio sessions
GLU went into the studio to record Life In The So-called Space
Age, and Up Off The Floor. David Reilly also recorded his Inside EP and How Humans Rx in the studio too.
10)
God Lives Underwater Tour background GLU has
toured with Korn, Filter, Deftones, Fear Factory, and plenty of others.
11) Record label
changes They were originally on American Recordings, then
got fired from American Recordings. Gary Richards really liked GLU and
decided to form his own Record label, 1500 Records, which ended up
goiing bankrupt. GLU suffered as a result, along with a number of
personal issues, and in 2004 found a label (Megaforce
Records) to release their final album, Up Off The Floor.
12) A Brief Synopsis of GLU/ David Reilly Jeff wanted to do other things (Mass
Hystereo - their ep was released in 1997) & David had to deal with
alcohol and heroin addiction. Also, his fiancee "7", passed away in 2000, then David decided to get clean.
He batteled with this on and off, and when Fluzee came about in 2001 he was clean temporarily. Once again he got
clean, and started pursuing his solo career, and in 2004 released the Inside EP. In early 2005 his then girlfriend,
Amy, passed away to drugs. David continued working on his music and soon after signed a four-record deal with
Ruffnation/Universal. In early October, he announced he was going to get married to his current girlfriend, Rachael,
but only weeks after, David Reilly Passed away to health problems. Conflicting reports say that he died because of a tooth
infection that had bled in his sleep and put him into a coma, where it ended up filling his lungs with blood. ANother report
says he died due to stomach problems.
As David stated in
this Re>gen Magazine Interview, "The
lowest points personally and musically were a lifelong battle with
heroin and alcohol ruining my music and my relationships with the band
and management. Musically, my lowest point was just simply not being
there while a lot of the album components were being put together."
13) What has happened to GLU since 1998?
1500 Records got liquidated, and then finally
after 3 label (contract) switches, GLU found Megaforce records. Also,
David released two EPs, one called "7", from his side project Fluzee,
and another called "Living In Syn" from Robot Teen America. Fluzee was
supposed to be the next incarnation of God Lives Underwater, but failed
due to some conflicts with the band members. Robot Teen America is more
electronic music, with 4 tracks on the EP labeled track 1-4
consecutively. There were only 77 copies of RTA released, and it is
unknown at this time if more songs exist.
14) Side
Projects David Reilly is focusing on
his solo career right
now, but the new GLU album, Up Off The Floor will be released later
this year on
Megaforce Records/Locomotive
Records. Jeff's is still in the band
Wired All Wrong. He works at Noiselab Music with Matt Mahaffey (of SELF) and they have samples of WAW here.>
15)Internet Tracks
Plenty of the UOTF tracks have been
circulating on p2p networks like KaZaA and Napster for
awhile, but the also can
be obtained
here.
16.Tribute Projects
GLU produced a track called "Fly on the Windscreen" for the Depeche
Mode tribute album, "For The Masses", they did another cover of the song
"Fame" for that compilation, and they also did a remix of the
song "Testure" for a Skinny Puppy tribute album.
17) Is GLU still together? and other rumors
GLU was considered on 'hiatus' unless Sales of UOTF was large and if they were willing to tour.
David Reilly did some solo touring in 2004 and was going to do 3 shows in 2005, but due to his death, those were cancelled.
